A permanently mounted Acquastop Swing system gives a marae in Seaview a practical way to close off its entrance when heavy rain threatens.

The challenge
During heavy rainfall, a council drain near the marae struggles to cope, allowing floodwater to inundate the lower entrance to the property.
Choosing a barrier meant considering who would deploy it. The entrance is some distance from the office buildings, making it difficult to carry removable flood barriers into position during bad weather, particularly for older members of the marae community.
The marae needed a system that stayed close to hand and was straightforward to put into use.

The solution
Supply Force installed an Acquastop Swing system, with flood gates permanently mounted on either side of the entrance.
When the gates are open, they sit back inside the property, leaving the entrance accessible. When heavy rain is expected, they can be swung closed without carrying barrier panels down from storage.
The hinge mechanism lifts the gates clear of the base plate as they move, then lowers them into position when closed to engage the seals.
The outcome
The marae was delighted with the installation and how straightforward it was to deploy.
Keeping the gates at the entrance removes the need to transport separate barriers across the site in wet weather. It gives the people responsible for preparing the marae a more manageable way to respond when flooding is a concern.
