The Problem:
An exclusive high-rise apartment building situated in Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast is susceptible to Flood water inundation during Cyclones and related weather events. The property is situated on the waterfront and will be the first in line in the event of an extreme weather event.
Site Issues:
The property is at the top end of the real estate market and very exclusive. The apartments owners where looking for a solution That needed the least amount of permanent changes to the building to in no way impacting the aesthetics of the building. The system also needed to be easy to deploy, as it would be deployed by the residents themselves. There was also limited storage space on site, so they looked for a system that did not take an unwarranted amount of space.
The Solution:
The committee managing the building spent over a year assessing various options in the market. They were stuck between the stave system of stacking multiple aluminium staves (time-consuming) or the neoprene cranking systems. Neither of these systems had the full committee in agreement.
This was at the same time that Supply Force Australia started to market the Acquastop system within the country. SFI was able to recommend the Acquastop Classic system, which requires minimal permanent fixtures and changes to the buildings. The 5.5m wide underground car park entry was protected with the system, as well as numerous entry points and 2 lift entries.
The Outcome:
Supply Force installed the system in January 2026. By using the slim plus brackets around the building, we were able to offer the most inconspicuous fixtures possible. Deployment training was carried out for the committee members, with all being able to deploy the system.
